Lakers Trade Rumor Has Nash + #7 to Philly for MCW and Thadeous Young
Ryen Russillo is reporting that he is hearing that the Phildelphia 76’ers are considering trading Michael Carter-Williams and Thadeous Young to the Lakers for the 7th Pick and Steve Nash. This would most likely mean the 76’ers have decided on selecting Dante Exum at #3.
Acquiring Steve Nash would allow the Philadelphia 76’ers to shed salary at the end of the season. They could also use him to mentor and coach Dante Exum and their other younger players. I could also see Nash being bought out and waived which would most likely result in Nash’s retirement though he could still seek out a roster spot from other teams. In his limited minutes with the Lakers last season he did show that while not his old self, he was still very serviceable and someone that had an impact on the game. I am unsure who they would target at the 7th spot, but with 2 top 10 picks as Noel from last season, they could have quite a great team in the future.
The Lakers would acquire some younger talent and would also get rid of Steve Nash’s contract. Thadeous Young is a young small forward that has proven to be very serviceable lately and can contribute to a team. Michael Carter-Williams won rookie of the year last season and while he is very talented himself, it was mainly due to how much he was able to play from the very beginning. He is able to stuff the stat sheet in many ways and is a great young prospect. If the 76’ers were to make this move they would seemingly believe that Exum would be a better overall choice than Carter-Williams. This move would be a great deal for the Lakers and would be another one of Mitch’s homeruns.
